Wanting something intimate and true to themselves, Samantha and Kristos already eloped in Vegas a couple months earlier but were ready to celebrate with family in DC. They got ready together in a hotel near CityCenter and pretty much danced their way to and from their small, romantic ceremony at the Cathedral of St. Matthew in their rented limousine. We had an absolute blast grabbing portraits of their beautiful (and hilarious) bridal party under the amazing autumn leaves, the installation above Palmer Alley, and then moved on to party and eat some of the best food I've ever put in my mouth at Momofuku -- where I am pretty sure I did not stop laughing or smiling for hours.
Every single moment – from their relaxed, easy, excited hours getting ready with family; their emotional and touching and intimate first look; their gorgeous ceremony in the woods of the Catoctin Mountains; the heartfelt and soulful words both spoken of them and from them during their toasts and reception; their hilarious and happy and fun and joyful reception – was overflowing with love and gratitude and respect.
I think I’m going to run out of happy and loving adjectives to describe Julie and Ryan and their wedding, so I will let these images tell the story of the beautiful day they said their vows surrounded by love under the trees.
Yesterday I recapped the amazing weddings and couples I photographed in 2017, but I couldn’t finish a reflection on the year without sharing images from all of the portraits and lifestyle work I was able to do. I love shooting portraits just as much as I love documenting weddings and I think it’s because in all of it, photography is an honest art that documents humans as they are. It never fails to amaze me how beautiful people are when they allow their hearts to shine through their eyes and smiles and I am so grateful I have been able to document those moments and capture these gorgeous souls in an image.
Here is every couple that hopped in front of my camera last year. It was insanely hard to pick just a few favorites from every wedding and one from every engagement or couples shoot – I clearly have a lot more to blog from the fall wedding season and that’s coming as soon as possible. I want to share every image from every one of these weddings because I love these people so incredibly much.
hannah and sean met me on a really *warm* june evening at Cylburn Arboretum for their engagement session, and friends, they. are. HILARIOUS. not only did they brave the heat and willingly sweat through some of their clothes with me (you can't tell because they're still beautiful), but i'm pretty sure i was laughing the entire time -- and the entire time i spent editing afterwards. i couldn't stop myself from including a couple of bloopers and goofy photos from our shoot.
